Self-Care

I have been really bad at self-care for a long time and more often than I would really care to admit - I self-medicate by eating (I am slowing coming to terms with the fact that I possibly have a food addiction - isn't that ironic?)  I am trying to incorporate self-care back into my life.  It's tricky and I think I am kinda doing it backwards - especially since I have a budget to stick to & lately most of my self-care has required spending money.  Honestly, a lot of the best self-care you can implement which (at least for me-never existed) or disappears when addiction enters the picture and we try to manage or control our loved ones addiction - most of it really is cheap of free.

Still, I think these have been wise things for me to do when it comes to self-care...

*I purchased a really cute notebook to journal in about the things I learn as I work the 12 Steps.
* I also got a really pretty binder to put my manual from the family addiction support group in.
* It wasn't a planned purchase - but a quick stop to Deseret Book lead to a purchase of the 2012 Summer Playlist cd (only $1.99) which is already well-used & I just got it last night.
*And tonight - must have been icing on the cake - on of the best evenings in I don't know how long  - I got to meet my absolute favorite author - Richard Paul Evans here in town at a local bookstore.  He signed my book, answered a question, chatted with me for a few, gave me a hug, & I even got a pic with him !  I have never really met anyone famous up-close & he is so down-to-earth and you can tell he genuinely cares about his audience.  I was school-girl giddy afterwards !

What have you done to practice self-care lately?

  1. I love this, 'cause I totally bought a cute journal for myself a couple weeks ago, put together a whole binder with all my 'stuff' last week, I was totally thinking about stopping off at Deseret Book and getting the summer playlist! :-)
